It would be a tremendous honour to serve on the Amnesty International Canada board because my extensive experience in board governance of the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace, the Weengushk Film Institute and All-In Media; as wells as its substantive focus on exposing human rights around the world which aligns with my decade long professional legal experience dealing with mental health law matters and human rights litigation. Amnesty International is a world leader in reporting on international law abuses developing strategic plans for public sector and private sector organizations to properly assess their anti-oppression policies and implement those policies while ensuring legal compliance.
At this stage of my career, it would be a natural transition to join the Amnesty International because of my consistent focus on human rights and disability law policies that focus on mental health accommodations and insurance benefits, as well as and as over 15 years of experience that I have developed in different board governance leadership roles. I would like to serve on the board using my board director experience of international legal advocacy against gender based violence, which I developed while on the board of the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace. My substantive knowledge of Amnesty International’s mandate has been developed through my leadership in human rights litigation against discrimination on the basis of disability, and creed, and while providing civil litigation advice for survivors of criminal harassment and sexual harassment with the use of anti-oppressive lenses. I strongly believe that the amalgamation of these legal and board governance skills would make me a good fit to be a board director for Amnesty International.
