Mexico: Update on missing women’s rights defender

On April 28, 2025, the Attorney General’s Office of Oaxaca announced that Sandra Domínguez and her husband, Alexander Hernández, were found dead in the state of Veracruz. According to officials, their bodies were discovered four days earlier with gunshot wounds.

The next day, April 29, Sandra’s family confirmed they had received her remains.

Sandra and Alexander went missing on October 4, 2024. Sandra’s relatives reported that the couple was last seen at their home in María Lombardo de Caso, in the municipality of San Juan Cotzocón, Oaxaca.

So far, one person has been formally charged and placed in pretrial detention, according to the Attorney General’s Office of Oaxaca.

We believe that the public outcry and support for Sandra and her family helped draw attention to this case and pushed for action. We will keep following the investigation closely and continue urging Mexican authorities to hold everyone responsible for these crimes fully accountable.

NO FURTHER ACTION IS REQUESTED. MANY THANKS TO ALL WHO SENT APPEALS.
