USA: Good News – Alberto released from ICE detention

On April 21, 2025, Alberto was granted bond and released from ICE detention. He has now reunited with his wife and two young children.

Alberto’s ordeal began on March 17, when U.S. immigration authorities detained him and separated him from his family. This happened despite the family having pending asylum applications and Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Alberto was charged with “illegal” entry into the United States — more than two years after the family had first arrived at the southern border.

Although a federal judge ordered his release from jail on March 20, immigration authorities detained him again on March 27, after he voluntarily reported to the immigration office in response to a letter he received.

Thanks to your global mobilization and support, Alberto is free — for now. However, the charges against him for “illegal” entry still stand. We are closely monitoring Alberto’s case and will issue a new urgent action if needed, especially if there are any signs of unlawful detention or other rights violations.

Thank you for supporting Alberto and his family!

NO FURTHER ACTION IS REQUESTED. MANY THANKS TO ALL WHO SENT APPEALS.
