Victory for free expression: Fahd Ezzi Mohammed Ramadhan released!

On June 1, 2025, Dutch-Yemeni national Fahd Ezzi Mohammed Ramadhan was finally released from prison in Saudi Arabia after spending over 18 months in arbitrary detention. He is now safely back in the Netherlands, reunited with his family.

Fahd was arrested on November 20, 2023, just two days after arriving in Saudi Arabia from the Netherlands. Authorities gave no reason for his arrest, and he was held incommunicado for weeks. He had no access to a lawyer at any point during his detention or interrogation.

When Dutch embassy officials visited him in prison in March 2024, Fahd shared that he believed he was detained because, years earlier, he had shown sympathy online for a critic of the Saudi royal family. In May 2024, prison officials asked him to sign a document listing four of his tweets. Despite never being formally charged, he was acquitted on May 6, 2025.

Fahd shared this message with Amnesty supporters:

“That Amnesty International was working on my case helped me mentally because it meant there was light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you to all the people who supported me and my family.”

No further action is needed. Thank you to everyone who took part in this campaign!
