“My name is Samira Levesque, and I’m excited to be putting my name forward to join the Board of Amnesty International Canada. As someone deeply committed to human rights, equity, and global justice, I bring a unique mix of: policy experience, board experience, and a deep understanding of diversity and inclusion. These experiences, I believe, would be hugely helpful in undertaking the responsibilities involved in serving on Amnesty’s board.
I think a huge responsibility of a Board Member is to critically problem solve. As a young professional, my job experience so far has centred around analytically dissecting – and then solving – problems. This includes my most recent consulting work, where I advise clients on how best to solve their problems with government, but also my previous work in Diversity and Inclusion – where my constant question was “how can efforts in diversity and inclusion improve” and “what are the best mechanisms at hand which i can use in achieving this outcome”. These are the types of problem-solving and efficiency-oriented experiences that I believe would make me a strong asset to the Amnesty Board.
I would also bring prior board experience to the Amnesty Board. My board experience includes serving on the Board of Directors at Informed Opinions, a non-profit where I helped guide strategic planning and served on the governance committee. I’ve also participated in the Fora: Rise on Boards program, where I received world class training on how to serve on a Board.
These are all experiences that I believe would make me a strong addition to Amnesty’s Board, and I look forward to discussing further! Thank you for your consideration.”
